The original plant is from South Asia, Persia and Africa and conquered Europe from there.
The plant with the characteristic odor, which is more reminiscent of cloves is a popular base ingredient and supplementation of Italian cuisine. Additionally there are versatile uses: soups, stews, salads, vegetable vinegar, etc. Not only as an ingredient but also as a decorative, basil is not negligible.
